FastMed Encourages Youth Athletic Participation to Promote Healthy Living

Offers Free Sports Physical Vouchers to Kernersville and Salisbury, NC communities

Clayton, NC – March 26, 2014: FastMed, North Carolina’s largest urgent care network, is encouraging children and adolescents to participate in physical education programs at their school or in after school sports programs as part of the FastMed Cares Program, with a free sports physical voucher to all students from March 25 through May 8.

In children and adolescents, regular physical activity improves strength and endurance, helps build healthy bones and muscles, helps prevent obesity, reduces anxiety and stress, and can increase self-esteem.

FastMed encourages physical activity through school and after school physical activity programs, including intramural physical activity clubs, interscholastic sports, and physical education by sponsoring these activities throughout Kernersville and Salisbury.

With the spring sports season starting in April including tennis and track as well as soccer, softball, baseball and lacrosse in May, any student participating in athletics is required to receive an annual sports physical.

The FastMed Cares Program was developed bringing the message of FastMed’s Urgent Care services to communities through unique and special initiatives specifically relevant to that community. Such initiatives include the Keep Cooler Program, which provides a 5 gallon water cooler to local schools and organizations; the FastMed Discount Program, for patients needing medical treatment and are self-pay; and many other local programs.

FastMed clinics offer walk-in sports physicals 7 days a week, with 38 convenient locations throughout the State, and FastMed’s physical meets the criteria of the North Carolina High School Athletic Association. A sports physical is not the same as a regular physical as it is geared toward assessing health and fitness of an individual related to a particular sport they are interested in playing.

The FastMed free sports physical voucher is valid at the following FastMed clinics:
