Who Would Win? The Battle of Chandler’s High School Mascots
The high school athletes of the Chandler Unified School District play hard in a variety of sports. But how competitive would their sports mascots be in a series of one-on-one challenges?
To find out (and pay homage to our nation’s annual obsession with brackets), we’re taking the mascots of five high schools in and near Chandler, Arizona and running a single-elimination, winner-takes-all tournament.
Arizona College Prep Knight vs. Hamilton Husky
Few would associate the Husky with abs of steel, so the Knight, with his years of physical training, would appear to have the advantage at first. But the Knight’s abs are of course underneath a suit of armor. And while plate armor did not impair mobility as much as some people might think, the unencumbered Husky is going to find this contest comparatively easier.
Winner: Hamilton Husky
Basha Bear vs. Chandler Wolf
Competition: Hot dog eating
Both of these mascots look straight-up mean. The Wolf, especially, appears to have endured a few very lean winters, meaning he’s extremely hungry for some tasty hot dogs.
But the Bear’s stomach capacity and experience snacking before hibernation make the Bear the clear winner here.
Winner: Basha Bear
Hamilton Husky vs. Perry Puma
It is well known that while the Husky has mastered the sprinkler and the shopping cart, the Puma dedicates time every day to learning to do the moonwalk.
In the end, it comes down to who wants it more. And in this case, the Puma just looks like the fiercer competitor. The Husky seems a little too self-satisfied.
Winner: Perry Puma
Basha Bear vs. Perry Puma
Contest: Hugging (first to hug five children wins)
A true matchup for the ages. The Basha Bear and the Perry Puma, both with alluringly alliterative names, will be going all in on this battle.
Although this contest involves a physical activity, it’s really a mental challenge: both of these mascots look extremely intimidating, so convincing children to hug them will take all of their persuasive powers.
Sure, as a cat the Puma will probably purr. But kids have a well-documented love for teddy bears, so if the Basha Bear can crack a smile, the Bear will be crowned the champion.
Winner: Basha Bear
