On Halloween, many parents will take their children through their town trick-or-treating and displaying their costumes. Instead of putting out a bowl full of candy that usually includes chocolate bars (the average chocolate bar has 250 calories and over 25 grams of sugar), try these foods instead:

After you’re done with your jack-o-lantern and have it placed for your whole neighborhood to see, take out the seeds in the middle and roast them in an oven. Pumpkin seeds are full of magnesium and contain 92% of your recommended daily intake of magnesium. It also contains phytosterols, which is known to reduce cholesterol.
A great alternative to the chocolate bars referenced earlier, granola bars contain a large amount of fiber, iron and protein which will help keep your children’s bones strong!
Trail Mix is the perfect tasty treat to offer for Halloween because of all the various food items it contains. With a mixture of nuts, raisins, chocolate chips and almonds, these foods contain manganese which helps the body develop and maintain strong bones.
