Laura joined FastMed as General Counsel in January 2020 and leads our Legal & Compliance Department, including risk management (insurance), litigation and claim management, licensing, medical records, and coding audit. Laura also serves as FastMed’s Corporate Secretary and is responsible for Board records and corporate governance, as well as legal management of our corporate transactions.
Laura has practiced law for more than 20 years, primarily in private practice at DLA Piper LLP and O’Melveny & Myers LLP. In private practice, Laura specialized in complex litigation defense (including qui tam False Claims Act claims), employment law, and antitrust defense of contested acquisitions before the Federal Trade Commission and Department of Justice, Antitrust Division. Laura’s healthcare industry experience includes successfully defending Synergy Health plc against a Preliminary Injunction sought by the FTC to block consummation of STERIS Corporation’s acquisition of Synergy. Laura’s healthcare experience also includes defending one of the nation’s largest hospital operators in a FTC retrospective investigation of a consummated hospital merger, successful enforcement of non-competition and non-solicitation restrictive covenants, including obtaining a Temporary Restraining Order on behalf of dental equipment manufacturer Nobel Biocare, and representing a healthcare REIT in a multi-property right of first refusal exercise dispute with a hospital system. Laura is past Chair of the State Bar of Arizona, Antitrust Section, and was repeatedly named a “Rising Star” in Business Litigation by Southwest Super Lawyers.
Laura is a graduate of the University of Virginia (B.A.) and the George Washington University Law School (J.D.), where she served as the Executive Managing Editor of George Washington International Law Review.
