Diet Soda a healthier option? Think Again

A recent article published by Yahoo’s Shine Senior Editor, Lylah Alphonese shed light on the fact that as a result of artificial sweeteners such as aspartame, with frequent consumption and over time, diet soda can actually cause wait gain as a result of higher blood sugar levels.

Through studies by the Texas Health Science Center, University of Minnesota and University of California San Diego, those “who drank diet soda daily had a 61 percent increased risk of cardiovascular events compared to those who drank no soda, even when accounting for smoking, physical activity, alcohol consumption and calories consumed per day,” ABC News reported.
