Easy New Years Resolutions for a Healthier 2014
This time of year, perhaps midway through your eighth or ninth eggnog, you might find yourself promising that 2014 is going to be different. You’re finally going to put yourself on the path to a new and healthier you.
So in the spirit of holiday giving, we at FastMed Urgent Care present this list of 7 easy things you can do to make yourself a little bit healthier in 2014. If you undertake a major diet or exercise change (after consulting with a health care provider), great. But if not, here are some simple ways to boost your health in the new year.
Choose a healthier snack.
Replace your candy bar, chips, or soda with almonds, carrots, or juice. You might find you actually feel better and have more sustained energy.
The skin of your future self will thank you. The skin of your current self will also thank you if it otherwise would have been roasted to a lovely shade of lobster.
When it comes to getting in the habit of healthiness, more movement is generally better. Park a little farther from the entrance to the store. Hold a walking meeting. Or dance to this video.
Take breaks at work.
Don’t spend all day hunched over your computer. Stand up, stretch, and remind yourself of what good posture feels like.
Wash your hands with soap and water.
Sure, it’s a lesson you probably learned in kindergarten, but you may have grown a bit lax in adulthood. 2014 is your year to get back in the groove. To quote the Mayo Clinic, “Frequent hand-washing is one of the best ways to avoid getting sick and spreading illness.”
Stay home when you’re sick.
If you pushed yourself to heroically come into work while sick in 2013, you may have put your colleagues at risk of getting whatever you had. And you may have deprived yourself of rest that could’ve gotten you back to full productivity sooner. This year, stay home if you’re sick. This is perhaps the easiest suggestion on this list. All you have to do is stay in bed.
Get your health issues checked out promptly.
It’s easy to justify putting off a visit to a health care provider. “It will take too long.” “It will cost too much.” But letting an issue that is “probably nothing” linger for too long could cause you bigger health problems down the road. At FastMed Urgent Care, you’ll get quality, cost-effective care that’s as fast as our name implies.
