Healthy proteins are an important part of every diet, and this delicious rub tastes great on steak. The Mayo Clinic offers this guide to the leanest cuts of beef. Choose top sirloin steak, sirloin tip side steak, or top round steak and serve with asparagus or green beans for a healthy dinner. After you apply the rub, cook the steak however you like it – throw it on the grill with some summer squash or bake it in the oven for a quick dish. Adjust the spices to your taste to give it more (or less) of a bite!
What You Need
1½ Tbsp. ground coffee beans (the secret ingredient!)
1½ Tbsp. kosher salt
1 Tbsp. ground cumin
½ Tbsp. ground black pepper
¼ tsp. cayenne pepper
Steak
What to Do
- Spread the ground coffee beans on a sheet of aluminum foil and hold it about 6 inches from the broiler. Broil the ground coffee beans for around 45 seconds, shaking the aluminum foil every 10 seconds or whenever it starts to steam.
- Mix all of the ingredients in a small bowl. Rub into the steak or pound it in with a meat mallet. This recipe makes plenty, so set aside whatever you don’t use in an airtight container for later meals.
- Grill or bake your steak and serve!
