The signs of bronchitis usually start with a persistent dry cough associated with an upper respiratory infection. Ultimately the cough becomes productive bring up mucus that is clear, thin and white. As the infection evolves the mucus becomes thick green, yellow or brown. Other signs of bronchitis include painful and difficult breathing, a low grade fever, burning, wheezing or crackling in the chest, difficulty sleeping and a general run-down feeling.
