What Is The Flu?

The flu, short for influenza, is a highly contagious respiratory illness caused by influenza viruses. These viruses primarily target the nose, throat, and lungs, leading to symptoms such as fever, cough, sore throat, body aches, fatigue, and sometimes severe complications.

Influenza viruses are categorized into three main types: A, B, and C. While influenza C typically causes milder illness, it is influenza A and B that are responsible for the most common and widespread flu outbreaks in humans.

Flu Test

A flu test is a diagnostic tool used to confirm an active influenza infection by analyzing a sample from the nose or throat, helping to differentiate between the flu and other illnesses like COVID-19. If you’re experiencing flu-like symptoms such as fever, cough, or body aches, a test can guide appropriate treatment.
