I Need a Sports Physical

Sports Physical at FastMed Urgent Care clinicsFastMed clinics offer sports physical 7 days per week at 38 convenient locations throughout the state of NC and 36 locations in Arizona. FastMed sports physicals comply with state requirements, and you can review the criteria of the North Carolina High School Athletic Association or Arizona’s Interscholastic Association’s form. for further insight. Keep in mind that a sports physical is not the same as a regular physical; a sports physical assesses the health and fitness of an individual in relation to a particular sport they want to play.

A sports physical is often called a pre-participation physical. The athlete is examined to identify any high-risk disorder or condition that might affect an athlete’s ability to safely play. The sports physical varies among providers, but the goals of the exam are generally the same. The purpose of a sports physical is to gain an understanding of the following factors:

  • Current fitness level
  • Any existing injuries
  • Any condition that might increase risk of injury
  • Physical maturity
  • Medical history

FastMed locations have EKG equipment for heart monitoring and digital x-ray technology to evaluate sprains, broken bones, and back pain. We can also use our on-site labs for drug and alcohol testing. These tests have no additional cost for an outside lab, and the results come back quicker. Saving you money is important, which is why we keep physicals affordable.

Sports physicals have two parts: collecting medical history and examining the current state of health. At FastMed, our medical team examines various aspects of your physical condition:

  • Height and weight
  • Blood pressure
  • Lungs
  • Vision
  • Heart (for murmurs or irregular heartbeat.)
  • Abdomen

A FastMed sports physical may also look at your joints range-of-motion, knee extension, reflexes, and the general functioning of your arms and legs. An endurance test may also be required, depending on the requirements of the school. As long as the FastMed Urgent Care medical team finds nothing abnormal, the doctor will clear the athlete to participate in sports.
