FastMed Cares initiative renews Keep Cooler program for 5th year in North Carolina

Clayton, NC, June 3, 2015 – FastMed Urgent Care has re-launched its annual “Keep Cooler Program” for the 2015 summer sports season.  Through the FastMed Keep Cooler Program, FastMed Urgent Care clinics donate five-gallon water coolers to local schools, athletic departments, sports associations and non-profit organizations.

The Keep Cooler program was started in 2011 and has provided five-gallon water coolers to over 250 middle schools, high schools, colleges, universities, local parks and recreation departments, sports associations and non-profit organizations.  Groups such as the Boy Scouts of America, American Heart Association, American Diabetes Association, YMCAs and numerous 5K runs, walks and triathlons have also participated in the program.

The Keep Cooler Program supports healthy hydration among young student and recreational athletes in the communities FastMed serves, particularly during outside play in the hotter months, to promote hydration, educate players on heat recognition and avoid heat-related illness and sports injuries.

“FastMed’s Keep Cooler Program is an important initiative in battling heat-related illnesses,” said Melvin G. Lee, M.D., Chief Medical Officer, FastMed Urgent Care in North Carolina.  “Since we launched the Keep Cooler Program in 2011 our communities continue to benefit each year from this healthcare tool, designed to be a constant reminder of the dangers of heat illness, and the importance of prevention, recognition and treatment.”

Contact the FastMed Cares Community Program to learn how your local school or organization can receive a five-gallon water cooler to promote hydration, heat awareness and injury prevention through the Keep Cooler Program.  Visit www.fastmed.com/about-fastmed/news-and-press/ and click on Keep Cooler or call 919.550.0821 and ask to speak to a FastMed community relations representative.
